PRESS RELEASE – issued April 29

Plymouth 44 Sheffield 45

Premier League

St Boniface Arena, Friday April 29

PLYMOUTH were beaten 45-44 by Sheffield in a last heat decider after one of the most keenly contested speedway meetings seen at the St Boniface Arena.

There were never more than four points between the sides as the Devils staged their eagerly awaited debut into Premier League racing.

Despite the frustration of defeat, it proved to be a highly entertaining meeting featuring a number of exciting races.

New signings Ben Barker and Jason Bunyan top scored with ten points each for Plymouth but Sheffield just edged the victory with former Trelawny favourite Emiliano Sanchez starring for the visitors.

Plymouth chairman Mike Bowden said: “We suffered because it was our first Premier League match while Sheffield had already completed eight league matches.

“So it was not surprising that they had a little more about them, but I was very pleased with the standard of racing and I am sure we will have many more exciting matches to thrill the supporters throughout the season.”
