The Plymouth Devils opened their National League account with a convincing win over the Stoke Potters at the St Boniface Arena winning 52-38 on a night of great racing.
In the first home match with the new look 1 to 7 the Devils were always in command and in the second part of the meeting hit the Potters hard with three maximum 5-1 heat wins all involving home No. 1 Steve Boxall.
He combined with Richard Andrews in heat 10 for the first of these and then combined with new signing Adam Roynon in heats 13 and 15 ensuring his side notched up an impressive win.
Roynon was voted Rider of the Night with a full 15 point maximum with Boxall also unbeaten by an opponent with a 13+2 for a paid maximum. Skipper Benji Compton, relishing the No. 3 race jacket , was back on song on an engine borrowed from team mate Richard Andrews , including two heat wins in his 9 point haul.
Both Andrews and Henry Atkins lost out on points with falls but still posted 5+1 and 4+1 whilst Callum Walker returned to the side with a solid paid 7 .
The meeting was very slickly run with all 15 heats and a second half over before 9 o’clock and fans were treated to some top class racing with overtaking at a premium …….. and that augers well for the future . With a good win, a solid side, good racing and overtaking this should tempt new fans along and get old fans back .
Team boss Laurence Rogers was well pleased with the result and performance, “ The boys were in great form and the fans were treated to some superb speedway. It was a deserved win and its onwards and upwards for the Devils as we get our teeth into the league campaign. “
“We take a break from league action next Friday for the Devon Best Pairs and this is going to be a close fought one with no favourites to take the title. We do have a vacancy for a main sponsor for the meeting so if anyone wants to back it they can contact me at laurence@plymouthdevils .co or text me on 07801429304.”
