Devils V Stoke Preview

The Plymouth Devils, doing so well in the National Trophy ,where they have qualified for the Final, and in the KO Cup , look to kick start their league campaign at the St Boniface Arena on Friday night (7.15 first race) when they face Stoke Potters.

With the addition of Adam Roynon to the ranks the Devils have a string spearhead along with top man Steve Boxall . The signing has allowed skipper Benji Compton to switch to the No. 3 berth and he looked back on form in that position last week . He has suffered with a nagging knee injury aggravated in a crash in the win at the Isle of Wight last Thursday but the tough Northerner just got on with the job and scored well on a rough Mildenhall track last Sunday.

Compton forms a new partnership with rising star Henry Atkins at 3 and 4 and last week the duo combined for two 5-1 maximum heat wins in their two outings together which augers well for the future. Atkins has been a revelation with his scoring with the 16 year old progressing out of the reserve berth into the main body of the team .

Callum Walker returns to the ranks after missing last weekend’s meetings due to his call up to the Grass Track European Championships where he had a good meeting in France and progressed to the Finals. He will give the Devils a solid number 7 just as Henry Atkins has been and has shown he can get amongst the points .

With Richard Andrews hitting good form at home recently and forming a  solid partnership with Steve Boxall, the Devils aim to get their first league points on the board at the expense of Stoke .

The Potters bring in Birmingham’s Tom Bacon as guest for Mitch Davey whilst they give a chance to 16 year old William O’Keefe at reserve following the retirement of  David Speight. They are without broken collarbone victim Tony Atkins and use rider replacement for their skipper at No. 2 .

Devils team boss Laurence Rogers is looking forward to the clash, “ Stoke are one of my old tracks having been involved there when speedway returned there at Loomer Road . The boys know we need to start stepping up a gear in the league now and this is the time to get some league points on the board and start rising up the table. We will be looking for a good win against the Potters for sure!”
