Devils Snap Up Roynon

With their new averages for 2017 now released the Plymouth Devils have swooped to make a heat leader change, bringing in former Devil Adam Roynon to replace Lee Smart.

Roynon lost his SGB Championship team spot at Workington recently and was wondering if his 2017 season was over . But after the new averages came into force after the Devils 4th meeting at Eastbourne last Saturday they were in a position to re-think their side. They had several options open to them but after a lot of discussion have elected to go down the route of top end strength brining in Roynon on a 10.24 average to spearhead the side with Steve Boxall.

The move will see skipper Benji Compton move to No. 3 in the side forming a new partnership with 16 year old rising star Henry Atkins , who has moved into the 1 to 5 from reserve with Callum Walker dropping to No. 7.

Smart is the rider to make way as his average of 4.24 allows the club to change the side and had the promotion gone down a different route in their team changes he could have remained at the club.

Co-Promoter Mark Phillips commented, “ Lee is the man to make way based on the figures of the first four league meetings. His form has not been consistent and we had to bear that in mind when looking at making a change. Hopefully he will get snapped up elsewhere on his bargain average”

“Adam at this level should be a class act and give us a strong spearhead with Benji backing them up. It is a move we had to do and hopefully we can start getting a few league wins to climb the table and put in a challenge for the play-offs. “

His co-promoter and team manager Laurence Rogers had the hard job of telling Lee Smart of the move , “ It is never easy having to tell a rider that he has lost his team place. I have had to do it many times and it never gets any easier. Lee’s average fits within what we need to do to strengthen up but it is something we have to do if we are to be in with a chance of a top four slot. Adam makes his debut at Mildenhall on Sunday and will be all out to get amongst the points immediately for us.”
